2. Danfoss Turbocor TTH/TGH High-Lift Compressor
Danfoss’ Turbocor TTH/TGH high-lift compressor is the world’s first oil-free centrifugal compressor, achieving high efficiency for water-cooled, evaporative cooled, and air-cooled HVAC installations.
With magnetic bearings, two-stage centrifugal compression, a variable-speed permanent magnet motor, and smart electronic controls, this compressor is not only sustainable, but also compact, lightweight, and quiet. Instead of the commonly used positive displacement compressors, the TTH and TGH high-lift compressors give chiller manufacturers a high-efficiency product to use for air-cooled chillers, heat recovery, and water-to-water heat pumps. 3. OmegaFlex MediTrac Corrugated Medical Gas Tubing
OmegaFlex recently introduced the world’s first corrugated medical gas tubing for the health care industry. Why care? Because it revolutionizes gas installation in settings like hospitals, according to Kevin Hoben, CEO of OmegaFlex, a global manufacturer of metal hose products. “Copper tubing has always been costly and time-consuming to install, with countless brazed sections and elbow joints that make a system vulnerable to leaks and contamination. MediTrac comes in one long length so it eliminates hot work, and its unique design makes it easy to bend as needed to fit a space.”

Unlike traditional copper tubing, MediTrac’s semi-rigid, corrugated design allows it to be installed in a single length and routed as needed. 4. Rinnai M-Series Condensing Gas Boiler
Rinnai’s new M-Series Condensing Gas Boiler is greener than conventional heating units. Rather than losing heat by venting it into the atmosphere, this gas boiler recovers discharged heat and returns it to the self-cleaning stainless steel heat exchanger for higher efficiency.
The new boiler model features an improved heat engine with new burner technology, decreased emissions, greater reliability, and a faster response time. 6. Emerson Copeland Scroll Two-Stage Compressor
Emerson offers award-winning cooling solutions. As the winner of the 2018 AHR Expo’s innovation award in the cooling category, the Copeland Scroll Two-Stage Compressor provides enhanced temperature and humidity control to optimize comfort. Emerson redesigned its latest line of two-stage compressors for higher performance in residential and commercial air conditioning systems. The two-stage compressor operates at full capacity, or approximately 65%, which keeps humidity in check while lessening energy consumption. 7. Bosch Ductless Minisplit System
Bosch Ductless Minisplit System can help lower your energy costs and improve home comfort with no ductwork required. The ENERGY STAR–rated ductless minisplit system from Bosch can be used for any size area—from a single-zone system for individual rooms to a multi-zone system for up to five rooms in your home. 8. Rheem Ultra Low NOx Furnace
Rheem’s new gas furnace is an environmental game changer when it comes to having cleaner, healthier air. Nitrogen oxide (NOx) produces smog and acid rain, which causes adverse health effects and negatively impacts the environment. Rheem’s new Ultra Low NOx Gas Furnace with 80% AFUE will decrease NOx emissions by 65% from the current standard.
The Rheem product is the first residential gas-fired furnace certified by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) for Rule 1111. SCAQMD established the California mandate to reduce NOx in natural gas-fired, fan-type central furnaces from 40 nanograms per joule to 14 nanograms per joule.
Over the last five years, Rheem’s engineers and product developers have been working to lower furnace NOx emissions. And now, they’ve succeeded. A recent source test demonstrated that the new furnace model performed significantly below the NOx emissions limit at all stages of firing, especially during start-up. 9. Chemours Opteon XP44 (R-452A) Refrigerant
Chemours is a world leader in titanium technologies, fluoroproducts, and efficient, safe chemical solutions. The company’s Opteon XP44 (R-452A) refrigerant is a hydrofluoroolefin-based “drop in” alternative for R-404A—it can be used in both new equipment and retrofits of existing refrigeration systems.
As a non-ozone depleting and low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant, Opteon XP44 is a greener option for commercial refrigeration and chillers. It’s also safer and more environmentally responsible, with about half the GWP of most refrigerants used today. Opteon XP44 was the 2018 winner of the AHR Expo Innovation Awards in the refrigeration category. It provides a near-match to the compressor discharge temperature and mass flow rate of R-404A, eliminating the need for thermal expansion valve adjustments.
Opteon XP44 has been approved and adopted by leading equipment manufacturers and is compatible with existing equipment design and lubricants. This non-flammable blend that can be topped off after leaks is suitable for transport refrigeration, like low- and medium-temperature refrigerated trucks, vans, and reefer containers and direct expansion chillers. Compressor cooling can be difficult to manage in transport refrigeration, but XP44’s low compressor discharge temperature is a significant asset for managing a range of conditions. chemours.com
