PROJECT LaGare Hotel Milano Centrale LOCATION Milan, Italy LEED Gold Certification 2015 SIZE 100,000 square feet ARCHITECT BMS Progetti HVAC Supplier Siemens
BMS Progetti transformed what was once an abandoned office building into this super sustainable hotel. Completed in 2015, LaGare Hotel Milano Centrale is filled with energy-saving technologies. The LEED-certified hotel uses an innovative geothermal heating and cooling system. These energy systems make the building’s energy supply completely green. Its walls are lined with insulation that reduces the hotel’s energy usage by up to 70%.
Even the construction process was green—95% of the project’s construction waste was recycled. The hotel’s water systems are also extremely efficient, with showers and sinks harvesting rainwater instead of potable water and dispensing it minimally. The hotel, which features 12 floors and 145 rooms, stands out in the heart of Milan with its sleek design. The exterior is glass and metallic and its interior is illuminated by motion sensor LED lamps.
